5G ESSENCE

EMBEDDED NETWORK SERVICES for 5G Experiences

This project provides a highly flexible and scalable platform which enables to support new business models by creating a neutral host market and reducing operational costs by providing new opportunities for ownership, deployment, operation, and amortization.

The technical approach will exploit the benefits of the centralization of Small Cell functions, especially through the Edge Cloud environment. This technology will be demonstrated in three real-life use cases associated to vertical industries (sports event, public safety, and aircraft).

Project start in June 2017  / Project end in November 2019

Newsletter #1 / Embedded Network Services for 5G Experiences (5G ESSENCE)

This newsletter published on 5GPPP web depicts the actual current state-of-the-art as well as the actual progress of the 5G ESSENCE project funded by the European Commission under Grant Agreement No.761592, also being part of the 5G-PPP Phase 2 framework.
The document comprises of a brief -but quite explicit- summary of the main objectives of the 5G ESSENCE effort accompanied by related motivations, trends and proposed approaches regarding 5G implementation, so that to purely serve as a reliable conceptual introduction to any potential reader.

ORBITER

Next Generation Mobile And Internet services

The aim of the project is to explore whether laser-based data transmission and LTE technology can provide a new way to increase data rates up to 40 Gbps.

It is expected that the combination of LTE mobile systems and laser communication can support increasing bandwidth requirements and provide cost-effective and reliable broadband access in rural areas.

Project start in September 2015  / Project ended in November 2017

PMSE-xG

Next Generation PROGRAM MAKING AND SPECIAL EVENTS

This project represents an interdisciplinary cooperation between the mobile communication industry and the Program Making and Special Events (PMSE) industry. The aim is the deployment of mobile broadband radio technology and network infrastructure for PMSE applications with the focus on technological and economic feasibility for PMSE in 4G+ and 5G.

Project start in October 2016  / Project ended in June 2018

INVIA

Resource-Adaptive mobile assistance system for complex agricultural machines

The aim of the project is the development of the concept and implementation of a prototype for a cloud-based mobile assistance system for diagnosing and servicing complex agricultural machines. For that low latency is required. Additionally, the mobile communication coverage in rural areas requires adaptive adaption of the assistance system using cloud computing, mobile edge computing, and fog computing. Therefore one “Edge Embedded Control Unit” should form the core of the fog cloud in case of poor or temporary missing connection to the mobile base station.

Project start in May 2017  / Project end in May 2019

LIPS

LIVE INTERACTIVE PMSE SERVICES

This project is a successor of PMSE-xG. The aim of the project is the interactive and immersive linking of live events at different locations using the new possibilities in radio and network technologies. Developed and realized should be the services for mobile LTE, 5G audio and video devices with Mobile Edge Computing (MEC), which can be run directly on cloud servers in the network of base stations.

Project start in April 2018  / Project end in September 2020
